2

Choose Your Course and University

Choosing the right programme is the foundation of a successful UK study journey, and we work with various universities, partner agencies, and consultants to help you choose courses and schools.

For Undergraduate Applicants

  • Choose between Foundation, Year 1 entry, or Top-up programmes.
  • Review entry requirements such as WAEC/NECO, A-levels, IB, or foundation completion.

For Postgraduate Applicants

  • Select between Taught Master’s (MSc/MA/MBA) or Research Degrees (MRes/MPhil/PhD).
  • Check academic requirements: minimum 2:2 or 2:1, depending on the university and course. Some universities now accept HNDs and 3rd-class certificates — please check with our admissions team for proper guidance and information.
  • Some programmes require work experience, a portfolio, or a research proposal. Discuss this during your consultation with us before proceeding.

Most UK universities publish detailed entry requirements on their websites. A-COO Edu Consults helps applicants match their profile to the right institution.

3

Prepare Your Academic Documents

UK universities typically require the following:

  • Academic transcripts & certificates
  • CV (for postgraduate applicants)
  • Personal Statement / Statement of Purpose
  • Reference letters (we recommend academic and work references)
  • International Passport bio-data page
  • Research proposal (for MRes/MPhil/PhD)
  • Proof of English language proficiency (WAEC, NECO, IELTS, etc.)

Importantly, you may need a Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter. Nigerian universities often issue this, confirming that your first degree or other degrees were taught in English. If you are using any Nigerian-accepted O levels (WAEC or NECO), you must have at least a C6 in English.

Ensure documents are clear, well-structured, and professionally written. A-COO Edu Consults provides expert editing and SOP review and development.

4

Submit Your University Application

We take responsibility for submitting this through our CRM or through our partner CRM portal, depending on your admission and school choices. Applications are submitted directly through:

  • University online portals
  • UCAS (for undergraduate programmes)
  • Direct email submission (rare, but used by some institutions)

Universities review applications within 2–6 weeks, depending on the season. However, postgraduate admissions could be secured within 24–72 hours, depending on the period and season.

If successful, you will receive either:

  • Conditional Offer — requiring additional documents (e.g., English test, transcript verification and, in a few cases, proof of financial status).
  • Unconditional Offer — confirming full admission.

We submit this admission on your behalf once you have provided these documents, and we follow up on this admission on your behalf free of charge.

5

Meet Your Offer Conditions & Pay Tuition Deposit

For unconditional offers, your next step is to apply for your CAS. For conditional offers that require documents, you will need to do the following to secure your place:

  • Upload outstanding documents.
  • Pay the required tuition deposit (usually £2,000–£9,000 depending on the university).
  • Complete any additional checks (e.g., a credibility interview for some institutions).

Once completed, the university will issue your CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies). This is a mandatory UKVI requirement and a document that confirms the University has accepted you. It is the equivalent of a Confirmation of Sponsorship (COS) for a work visa application.

6

Receive Your CAS Statement and Apply for a Visa

UKVI requires a CAS before you can apply for a Student Visa. The CAS includes:

  • Course details
  • Start and end dates
  • Tuition fees
  • Deposit paid
  • Sponsor licence number
  • Unique CAS reference number

You must apply for your visa within 6 months of receiving your CAS.

Note: Your CAS may be withdrawn if you fail to apply within the stipulated time frame, fail your visa interview, or the University decides that it may no longer accommodate you for the particular session or for personal institutional reasons. We advise you to apply for your visa within 2 weeks of receiving your CAS, as demand is increasing and regulations for international students are becoming stricter. Always contact our administrators for guidance and support, especially at this stage.

7

Prepare Your UK Student Visa Application

UKVI requires the following for a Student Visa:

  • Valid passport (International Passport)
  • CAS number
  • Proof of funds (tuition + living expenses)
  • English language evidence
  • TB test results (there are specified venues and locations for this in Nigeria; please confirm before you obtain one)
  • ATAS certificate (for certain postgraduate science/engineering programmes)

While the above are basic requirements, A-COO Consults will always advise and require you to provide other documents, including reference letters from your place of work, payslips to support proof of funds, evidence of your proposed living and accommodation arrangements, professional certifications, and others.

Financial Requirement (Maintenance Funds)

You must show:

  • Tuition fees for the first year.
  • Living costs for up to 9 months, at the rates below.
£1,334 per month — London
£1,023 per month — outside London
28–31 days funds must be held

Please avoid fintech apps and fintech savings accounts, and avoid using corporate or business accounts to demonstrate your funding availability. These funds must be held in an account in your name, except for undergraduates whose parents could provide them, and for student dependent visas (research students M.Res or PhD whose partners are students).

Applying for Your Visa

All applications are submitted online via UKVI. Do not allow any agent or agency to use their own email or details — please use your own email and details for your application. You will:

  • Create a UKVI account.
  • Upload supporting documents.
  • Prove your identity using the UK Immigration: ID Check app, or attend a visa application centre for linking your visa (this can be done after your visa has been decided).
  • Attend biometrics in Abuja or Lagos.
  • Wait for your visa outcome or decision.

In an increasing number of cases, you will attend a visa interview if there is unclear information in your application.

Processing Times

Officially, although some visas have been decided earlier or later than stated:

3 weeks applying outside the UK
8 weeks applying inside the UK

Priority services may be available for faster decisions. UKVI decisions have recently been faster, except when they require further steps like an interview or additional documents.

Travelling to the UK

You may arrive:

  • Up to 1 week before your course starts (if course ≤ 6 months).
  • Up to 1 month before your course starts (if course > 6 months).

Upon arrival, ensure you carry:
